Our Mission
Above all, FYLA Irvine/Tustin believes that global change can begin with local outreach efforts. When performing community service, we believe it’s important to look both inward (i.e. to our local communities) and outwards (i.e. to the world at large).
What do we do?
Locally, our organization provides free tutoring services for local students, helping them with core subjects like math and English. Every month, we clean up local parks, clearing out trash and clutter. Many of us also participate in the Benetones, a group that organizes monthly musical performances at Ivy Park, a senior center in Fullerton. Every year, FYLA Irvine/Tustin encourages its members to join the Angel Tree program, which is a gift drive for residents at Crittenton Services (a welfare and foster nonprofit).
Globally, FYLA engages in both donation and service-based activities. Each member is committed to gathering and recycling plastic bottles and cans. Members raise at least $120 through recycling., and these funds are donated to Malawi to assist in school meal programs. Furthermore, are encouraged to get further involved with Crittenton Services. Crittenton provides services for over 2,000 clients per year. Many of these clients are high school age, and they hail from areas all around the globe—including Latin America, the Middle East, and South Asia.
FYLA is a gathering of students who want to use their goodwill for the community at large. No matter the activity, FYLA is focused on bringing positive change in others’ lives—a theme that has continued and will continue through our organization’s lifetime.
